Minister of Internal Affairs and coordinator of the Ministry of Justice, Human and Minority Rights Sergej Sekulović emphasized the commitment of the Department of Internal Affairs to the fight against organized crime and said that he is proud that international partners recognize the seriousness in approaching this challenge, which he says has been visible in the last year.
Today, he received the head of the OSCE Mission in Montenegro, Dominik Vag.
On that occasion, Sekulović expressed his satisfaction with the successful cooperation between the MUP and the OSCE Mission in Montenegro and thanked for the help in the reform processes that are being implemented, especially in terms of training, promotion of the police profession and greater participation of women.
As stated in the Ministry of Interior's announcement, support in terms of cyber security, human trafficking, illegal possession, misuse and trade in small arms and light weapons is no less important.
"We also highly appreciate the constructive engagement of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), which contributes to strengthening trust in the electoral process and improving the capacity of the authorities for conducting elections in Montenegro," Sekulović pointed out.
Vag praised this year's results in the fight against organized crime and said that the Mission will continue to support Montenegro in providing the necessary training, professional knowledge and technical equipment, all with the aim of strengthening the police in the country.
She added that the Mission is actively engaged in supporting Montenegro in the fight against the illegal possession, abuse and trade of small arms and light weapons, in the context of the road map for the Western Balkans.
"Also, the fight against human trafficking is one of the OSCE's priorities," Vag said, stressing that the Mission is ready to continue providing support to Montenegro in achieving its national policy goals.
Sekulović and Vag also discussed cyber security, the fight against transnational crime and money laundering.
Sekulović praised the concrete results of the "For more women in the police" campaign, which was supported by the Mission and which recorded an increase in the number of women enrolled in the Police Academy. This year, 40 percent of enrolled academics are women.
Sekulović pointed out that the Ministry of Internal Affairs will continue to be a reliable partner to the OSCE Mission, with full openness to strengthening cooperation, as well as new initiatives aimed at strengthening the democratic capacities of the institution headed by him.
