The President of Kotor Municipality, Vladimir Jokić, agreed to sign a memorandum of cooperation with Athens, the Municipality announced.
Jokić is participating in the B40 Summit of Balkan Cities in Istanbul, and on that occasion he met with the Mayor of Athens Kostas Bakoianis.
At the meeting, as they say, they discussed specific areas of cooperation between the two UNESCO cities, which, in addition to membership in this organization, also connect many other issues.
"The preservation and development of cultural heritage, cruise tourism, seafaring, cooperation in the field of seafarers' education in the form of connecting and exchanging students and students of maritime secondary schools and colleges, as well as the possibility of doing internships on Greek ships, are just some of the numerous fields of possible cooperation. Cooperation in the field of sports, with an emphasis on water polo, which is an equally important part of the sports lifestyle of Athens and Kotor, was one of the topics at today's meeting," the Municipality announced.
Bakoianis expressed special interest in the history and continuity of the Bokeli Navy, which is expecting the official publication of its inscription on the UNESCO list these days.
After the visit of Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić and Minister of Foreign Affairs Đorđe Radulović to Greece, it was agreed to establish cooperation between Kotor and Athens, which paved the way for the signing of the MOU (Memorandum on Cooperation).
The confirmation of the establishment of cooperation between Kotor and Athens will be signed by Jokić and Bakoianis in Athens at the beginning of next year.
