The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, Đorđe Radulović, reiterated his support for the open door policy and Ukraine as a partner, stressing the importance of continuing NATO's double-track policy towards Russia.
As announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MVP), Radulović said this in the context of the current situation on the border with Ukraine, at the session on Russia, at the meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Latvia.
"At the sessions of the ministerial meeting, the heads of diplomacy of the member states of the Alliance discussed issues related to Euro-Atlantic security and the next steps in the implementation of the conclusions of June, and the meeting at the NATO summit in Madrid in mid-2022," the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes.
The government department added that with regard to the adoption of the next Strategic Concept, Radulović pointed out the central role that the transatlantic connection, unity and solidarity have for common defense and security.
"The three key tasks of NATO - collective and cooperative security, and crisis management are still relevant, but they need to be adapted to the new security environment. In this regard, the document needs to include all challenges and risks, including those that were not included in the Strategic concept from 2010. A special focus should be on strengthening the resilience of allies, but also on cooperation with partners, primarily the European Union," Radulović pointed out.
In the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is stated that on the issue of non-proliferation, arms control and disarmament, Radulović emphasized "Montenegro's commitment to this issue and our commitment to the application of all international legal instruments that regulate this area".
"Speaking on that topic, he reiterated Montenegro's position that attempts should be made to violate or even find a replacement for the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Hair with generally established principles and rules of the disarmament process, and that only through the consistent application of the relevant treaties on nuclear disarmament and arms control can to achieve a world without nuclear weapons," the MFA statement reads.
On the sidelines of the meeting in the capital of Latvia, Riga, Radulović spoke with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Rinkevičs.
"On that occasion, the support for our path to the European Union was highlighted, as well as the excellent bilateral cooperation between the two countries. The foreign ministers also stated that the alliance in NATO has been further strengthened by our contribution to the presence of the Alliance in the East," the MFA statement concluded.
