Democratic Montenegro is ready to negotiate a coalition in Cetinje and to form a government there without the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), said the leader of the Democrats and Speaker of the Parliament Aleksa Becic.
"The DPS did not rule for four years, but for decades, and now it has received a response from the citizens and it should be respected," said Bečić at a press conference in the Parliament, on the occasion of the official visit of the President of the Estonian Parliament, Juri Rataš.
He believes that there will be no problems in the constitution of the government in Mojkovac, regardless of disagreements at the state level.
The president of the Democrats said that he was "satisfied" with the results of the local elections, which, he said, confirmed the growth of the Democrats and the coalition's winning streak in power.
"On the other hand, the decline of our competitors continues. They claimed that they would defeat us convincingly, however, the citizens clearly responded differently. The Democrats achieved a 30 percent increase in Mojkovac, and 50 percent in Cetinje after all the events," said Bečić.
He reminded that 18 council seats were won by four opposition clubs - Democrats, GP URA, Stara Garda and SDP.
"So the response of the citizens of Cetinje, even after all the events, was completely clear. The DPS experienced a big decline in Cetinje, and if everyone sticks to the fact that Cetinje needs change, we will easily comply with the will. The citizens voted that the opposition in CT take over the current government," said Bečić
Bečić stated that, of course, negotiations on the formation of the government in Cetinje have not yet begun.
"But of course we are fully prepared to realize the electoral will of the citizens in Cetinje and for the previous opposition to take over power in Cetinje," said Bečić.
They will vote for the budget, they expect the support of the Government
Bečić said that this party will support the budget for the next year, as they announced, but they expect the Government to support their proposals regarding compensation for mothers, child allowances...
"If anything should unite the deputies, it is precisely these laws," said Bečić
He also said that they had been advocating for the reconstruction of the Government for months and that at one point they had the highest degree of agreement, and the "smaller political entity" made it difficult.
"As our proposal was rejected, and another larger entity gave up, it was natural for us to announce that those who refused and gave up on the reconstruction should harmonize their positions and find a solution," said Bečić at the press conference.
"I am sure that after last night's results, no one will think of ending the electoral will of the citizens," added the leader of the Democrats.
He also believes that yesterday's elections are a message to the citizens that the current majority should continue together, and that the government should be stabilized.
"Montenegro should, can and will, and will be the first next member of the EU"
The President of the Parliament of Estonia Jurij Rataš said that Montenegro can always count on Estonia's support in European integration.
"We are ready to support the future membership of Montenegro in the EU," said Rataš.
When asked whether political instability will affect Montenegro's European path, Rataš answered that the state should take advantage of the high level of public support for EU membership.
"As I heard, about 80 percent of your population supports EU membership and it would be useful to use this flywheel. I hope that politicians will understand that this is a very important message that you should become a member of the EU, but that is your decision," he said. You are a warrior.
Bečić thanked Estonia for its assistance to Montenegro and stated that this country has always been a sincere supporter of the EU enlargement process.
He said that Rataš said that he was ready to go together throughout Europe and wherever necessary to partners from the EU, who may have a certain amount of skepticism in relation to the policy of expansion to the Western Balkans, in order to talk with them in a friendly manner with the combined forces and showed what Montenegro has done and proved that Montenegro is a leader on the European road.
"Montenegro needs, can and will, and will be the first next member of the EU because it is in the interest of both Montenegro and the Western Balkans and the EU," said Bečić.
