The Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Social Democrats (SD) moved out of the old government building into new premises, while the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) asked for a little more time until it arranges a new office space, the Cadastre Administration and state property.
The three parties thereby complied with the conclusions of the Government, which decided at the session on August 30 to take over the premises of the old Government building, i.e. to evict the DPS, SDP and SD, which had been using that space for years without compensation.
As the successor of the Union of Communists, the DPS was in the building in Jovana Tomašević Street for decades, and then it was joined by the other two parties, which, like the other parliamentary parties, had the right to do so by law.
In the information of the Government, which was published on the website after the session on August 30, it is stated that DPS uses a space with a total area of 1.276 square meters, SDP 234 square meters, and SD 192 square meters.
The government tasked the Administration for Cadastre and State Property to conclude contracts for the lease of business premises for the needs of those three parties for their regular work.
The information also states that at the end of 1993, the state undertook to provide the parties with work space in Podgorica, in accordance with the available possibilities, as one of the conditions for their work and political activity. This defined that the rent costs for the space provided to the parties are borne by the Government, by providing dedicated funds in the budget.
The Law on the Financing of Political Entities and Election Campaigns defines that business premises are provided by the authority in charge of property affairs.
After the Government's decision, the DPS replied that they were not thinking about leaving the premises, and that they considered the decision to be revanchism towards the opposition.
They claimed that they did not usurp the premises in the old Government building, nor did they appropriate it at anyone's word, but that they have a "permanent contract" which, as they explained, are also owned by the Government authorities.
In the DPS press release at the time, it was announced that the contract could only be terminated in court.
"Vijesti" has not been told whether DPS will initiate court proceedings.
In the response of the Administration for Cadastre and State Property, it is stated that DPS, "due to greater spatial needs and the specificity of the technical infrastructure", asked for an extension of the deadline for eviction.
The new premises of the SDP, which the party moved into ten days ago, are located in Atinska no. 5, and SD in Svetlana Kane Radević Street, no. 3.
The prosecution is moving to the old government
Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić announced earlier that, due to the poor condition of the building in which that institution is located, he will offer the Prosecutor's Office a move to the old government building.
He pointed out that the Prosecution does not have to accept it, but that he thinks that the old Government building is a good solution and meets all standards.
In 2010, the government moved from the old building to the new one, located in Karađorđeva street, in the center of Podgorica.
