For Montenegro, Latvia is a model, incentive and inspiration for achieving the foreign policy goal of membership in the European Union (EU), said the Minister of Foreign Affairs Đorđe Radulović.
He spoke today with his Latvian colleague Edgars Rinkevičs, who is on an official visit to Montenegro.
Radulović, at the press conference after the meeting, said that the visit of Rinkevičs is a confirmation of Montenegrin-Latvian relations, which are characterized by partnership, openness and continuous mutual support at the bilateral and multilateral level.
"We highly value Latvia's support for our foreign policy priorities, among which stand out joint action within NATO and the participation of the Montenegrin Army in the mission at the Adaža military base," said Radulović.
He said that Latvia is a role model for Montenegro on the way to EU membership.
"Latvia, as a developed democracy that has achieved remarkable results in integration processes, represents for us a role model, incentive and inspiration for achieving the foreign policy goal of EU membership," said Radulović.
In a conversation with his Latvian colleague, he conveyed Montenegro's interest in participating in the "Three Seas" initiative as an observer.
"Because we believe that European, regional platforms, which promote economic growth and encourage cohesion and unity, represent a reliable model of a common European future", stated Radulović.
He said that the importance of connecting the parliaments of the two countries was highlighted at the meeting.
"Because we see parliamentary diplomacy as an important and unavoidable segment of our cooperation", added Radulović.
He said that it is necessary to intensify the trade exchange and to work additionally on attracting foreign investments.
Radulović also pointed to the importance of presenting Montenegro's tourist offer on the Latvian market and the possibility of traffic connections and the establishment of a north-south transport corridor, which, he added, would be particularly significant from the aspect of connecting the Port of Bar with Latvian ports.
Rinkevičs said that Latvia sees Montenegro as a great partner and that they are grateful for Montenegro's contribution to NATO and the mission in the East.
"I confirm that we will gladly host Montenegro at the summit within the Three Seas initiative. We look forward to the improvement of our political and economic cooperation and the possibility of establishing the Riga-Podgorica airline line", he said.
