The relations between Montenegro and Latvia are characterized by partnership, openness, as well as continuous mutual support within the framework of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, said Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić.
Krivokapić met in Villa Gorica with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Rinkevičs, whose visit, he said, was a confirmation of the friendship between the two countries.
As reported, the Prime Minister thanked Latvia for its continuous support in the field of EU integration, saying that Montenegro's dedication, commitment and civic determination in meeting the criteria and conditions for membership in the European Union are unquestionable.
"More than 80 percent of citizens are in favor of Montenegro being the first and next member of the European Union, which clearly shows their resolve and readiness for the EU to be their future reality," Krivokapić said.
Speaking about global processes in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, Krivokapić emphasized the importance of the results achieved by the Government in the past year, concluding that "the new administration has succeeded in managing the country by managing the largest economic decline into the largest economic growth, which is concrete, measurable and whose benefits citizens have already they feel".
Rinkevičs, expressing the realistic hope that Montenegro will manage to close the most challenging negotiation chapters 23 and 24 as soon as possible, "conveyed messages of understanding of social transition" and support for Montenegro's path to the European Union, according to the Government.
Confirming that Latvia highly values and sincerely holds political relations with Montenegro, he said that he is sure that the cooperation between the two countries will continue to develop for mutual benefit and satisfaction, the statement concludes.
