"People of Montenegro, get ready for the elections," said the leader of Democratic Montenegro, Aleksa Bečić.
At the protest organized tonight in Podgorica, he said that they had gathered to defend the electoral will of 208.000 people, and to oppose the return to power of "those who robbed us, divided us, and put us in debt."
The gathering called by Democratic Montenegro, United Montenegro and True Montenegro was organized near the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Podgorica.
The Democrats previously called for a protest for "preserving the electoral will", and after the dismissal of the leader of that party, Aleska Bečić, from the position of President of the Parliament of Montenegro.
The gathered citizens walked through the streets of Podgorica, and upon their return in front of the Temple, Democratic Montenegro MP Momo Koprivica called for a new protest planned for next Wednesday.
He thanked the gathered and said that the majority Montenegro is "one that cannot be bribed, wavered and agree to betrayal".
"The voice of the people is the voice of God, tonight we heard "elections, elections" and that is the solution, and no one has the right to deny it to the people," said Koprivica and called on them to "gather in double the number next time to say no to the mafia, no corruption, not criminals".
One of the leaders of the Democratic Front, Andrija Mandić, previously confirmed that the officials of that political alliance will attend the rally as a sign of solidarity.
At the protest were officials of DF Jovan Vučurović, Milun Zogović, Jelena Božović, United Montenegro Goran Danilović, Workers' Party Maksim Vučinić, Prave Marko Milačić, and from Democrats there were Aleksa Bečić, Dragan Krapović, Vladimir Martinov, Boris Bogdanović, Zdenka Popović, Danilo Šaranović...
Minister of Economic Development Jakov Milatović was also at the protest.
In his address to the crowd, before the walk, Bečić said that no one had gathered because of the armchairs, but to defend the electoral will of the citizens.
"These days, Montenegro has united, which does not tolerate injustice, betrayal, deception, fraud..." said Bečić.
"I came tonight without an armchair, but feel free, without an armchair. And those who call us names because of armchairs don't care that they have five times more armchairs than mandates, and they are not allowed to come among these people, they want more armchairs. We offer them all the armchairs return to the people, so let the people judge. But they want more seats with the DPS and say they are sacrificing themselves for Montenegro. They say the DPS is not coming back. Don't worry, they will make up two-thirds of that government. That new minority government will depend on the will of the DPS, they won't even be able to say good day without the DPS amen," said Bečić.
He added that "it is a paradox that you will elect judges and prosecutors with those whom you claimed were thieves and criminals".
"We are here tonight to defend the electoral will of 208.000 people, to oppose the return to power of those who robbed, divided, and indebted us for decades. We defend the minimum wage of 450 euros, other increased wages of 20 and 30 percent, which has never happened in previous decades , we defend benefits for mothers, child allowances, minimum pensions..." said the leader of the Democrats.
He added that he wants "the people to solve this".
"If they are not afraid of the people, why don't they accept our offer to return the seats to the people. We demand the calling of local elections in Podgorica, Bar, Pljevlja, Biejlo Polje and other ten municipalities, extraordinary parliamentary elections. I cannot run away from the judgment of the people. I am convinced of a great victory in the local, parliamentary and presidential elections. People of Montenegro, get ready for the elections," said Bečić.
He also pointed out that he feels proud.
Bečić scheduled the new gathering for next Wednesday and after the speech invited the gathered to walk the streets of Podgorica.
The presidents of the municipalities of Kotor and Herceg Novi, Vladimir Jokić and Stevan Katic, as well as the president of the Nikšić municipality, Nemanja Vuković, were also at the protest.
Before the start of the protest, Saranović warned the gathered about those "who could cause riots by assignment".
He also said that whoever tries to color the gathering nationalistically "was sent by traitors, the DPS and the mafia."
He told the crowd not to react to provocations "that they can expect tonight."
By organizing the protest, the measures adopted to prevent the spread of the coronavirus were violated.
Among other things, the measures include carrying masks in an open space when it is not possible to maintain a physical distance of at least 2 meters.
