By electing a councilwoman of the Old Guard of the Liberal Alliance (SG LSCG) Milena Vujacic for the president of the Assembly of the capital Cetinje, the Democratic Party of Socialists was sent to the opposition after 17 years.
Vujačić was elected as the president of the Assembly of the capital Cetinje last night in the continuation of the constitutive session of the Council of Cetinje, by secret ballot with 18 votes of support. She was nominated for that position by 11 councilors from the list "SDP and Citizens" and SG LSCG, and was supported by GP URA and the Democrats.
Vujačić said that it is an honor and a great responsibility for her to perform the function of president of the SO. "I am convinced that with mutual respect and good cooperation, we will make a full contribution to improving the work of local self-government," she said after taking the oath.
DPS proposed the president of the SO for that position in the previous convocation, Dejan Dizdar (DPS), for which 12 councilors voted.
Earlier yesterday, the president of the local SDP Nikola Đurašković announced that they have formalized cooperation with LSCG. Đurašković, according to several sources, is reputed to be the future president of the municipality of Cetinje, but this will be voted on at a new session of the Council of Ministers.
During the parliamentary debate, councilor GP URA Slavko Šole Janković (URA) said that he is happy that after 20 years he is witnessing the "decline of DPS". "I am happy that with my friends I will support a virtuous child from Cetinje... I hope that we will make the best decisions for this city in the near future. URA is celebrating today," Janković said.
In front of Democratic Montenegro Balša Raković said that the functions are transitory, and that Cetinje and Montenegro will live forever, and that he is convinced that with the election of Vujačić and the formation of this parliamentary majority, they will succeed in returning the old glory to the capital, the shaken dignity and trust of the citizens in the local government and that to use citizens' funds in an honest way.
"DPS will no longer exercise power in the capital and the decades-long agony is over".
Boro Pravilović (DPS) said that DPS will join the opposition with dignity, and that it will be a constructive opposition. "We came today because we don't want to obstruct this solemn act," said Pravilović.
Dejan Milosevic (SD) said that the SD will be restrained, stating that the unity of the Montenegrin bloc in Cetinje and in the whole of Montenegro is a priority and a necessary condition in order to return the country "from the detour to the right, civil, secular, anti-fascist, European path."
He pointed out that he cannot be on the same side with those who are followers of Ratko Mladić's politics and who run politics from the church.
Petar Martinović (URA) said that the Cetinje URA supported the formation of a new government between the SDP and the Old Guard after 22 years. "I believe that the coalition between the SDP and the Old Guard can revive this city, where honest work should be done," said Martinović, adding that Vujačić has their full support.
Member of DPS Oscar Hutter said that a new government is being formed in Cetinje and that it is clear who the future partners are and to whom the seats are important. "It is clear who, driven by unlimited political ambition, will be delivered from Belvedere into the arms of Joaniki Mićović".
He pointed out that they extended their hand to those with whom they defended Cetinje, to stand by each other "now when it is most needed". Huter said that no one could have imagined "the kind of betrayal that Cetinje is witnessing today".
He pointed out that the newly formed coalition, which was tailored so that the SDP would get the post of mayor, will fall apart before the coalition at the state level. "You trampled on the principles to seize power, good luck to you."
Mirko Stanic (SDP) said that if the SDP and the Old Guard are not representatives of the authentic expression of the people, "then they don't know who is".
"Montenegro was betrayed by the one who allowed that after 30 years in the monastery of Cetinje we have the situation we have today. While the SDP fought for the interests of the civil and secular state, some fought for the interests of their own pockets".
He pointed out that the coalition that is being created today is exclusively between the SDP and the Old Guard, not with URE councilors and the Democrats.
The Assembly of the capital has 33 councilors. DPS has 14 mandates, SDP eight, GP URA four, Old Guard and Democrats three each, and the coalition of Social Democrats and the Liberal Party one mandate.
"The defeated policy of irresponsible attitude towards the capital"
As we said after the elections on December 5, it was confirmed today in the Assembly of the capital Cetinje - URA strong, DPS down. After 20 years, DPS experienced a defeat in the elections, and Cetinje a victory that will mark a new beginning for the development of our city, announced Slavko Šole Janković, president and councilor of the Cetinje Civic Movement URA.
He said that he was proud to witness, as he stated, both defeats of the DPS in Cetinje - the first as a candidate for councilor of the Liberal Alliance of Montenegro in 2002, and the second as the holder of the GP URA list in these elections.
"Today, the policy of irresponsible attitude towards the capital has been officially defeated, during which our Cetinje experienced economic, demographic and moral collapse. Let today mark the beginning of a better time for this city, and the Cetinje URA will unconditionally give minority support in the local parliament to the new government, by which we want to show that we do not care about functions, but only about the prosperity of this city", he said in the announcement.
