In light of the extraordinary events in neighboring Budva and Tivat, where the Government of Montenegro is announcing the introduction of forced administration due to the blockade of local assemblies, a logical question arises: does the same fate await Kotor?, announced today from the Municipal Board of the Democratic Party of Socialists ( DPS) Kotor.
"More than six months have passed since the last successfully held session of the Council of Kotor was scheduled, and thus our parliament was brought to a similar state as the parliaments of neighboring municipalities. We were brought to this situation due to disagreements within the ruling majority, as evidenced by their numerous announcements with mutual fights and accusations. At a time when we are recording the recovery of the local economy from the adversities brought on by the pandemic, and at a time when citizens are expecting the realization of announced serious and vital investments for our city, it is incomprehensible to us that the ruling majority is repeating the same mistakes as in the previous mandate in which were in power, i.e. from 2017 to 2019," the statement of DPS Kotor points out.
They added that the non-adoption of the budget and the non-adoption of crucial plans and programs puts the local self-government's operability into question and imposes uncertainty in the preparation of the upcoming tourist season, from which everyone expects a lot.
"The Democratic Party of Socialists, as a representative of a large number of citizens of Kotor, demands that the work of the local parliament be unblocked, and if that does not happen, that the mandates be returned to the women and men of Kotor," concludes the statement of DPS Kotor.
