The statement of the spokeswoman of the European Commission, Ana Pisonero Hernandez, that Montenegro did not fully comply with all the recommendations of the Venice Commission in order to avoid the politicization of the Prosecutor's Council, should worry all political subjects, said the deputy of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Suzana Pribilović.
"The parliamentary majority tended to ignore these recommendations, in order to achieve complete political control over this body, which is unacceptable and, as we have seen, represents a red light for our international partners, suggesting that the independence of the prosecution is seriously threatened. When we consider that the Law on the prosecution last year, adopted unconstitutionally and by force, without dialogue with the opposition, that the president of the state, due to inconsistency with the Constitution, returned this act for reconsideration, and that the parliamentary majority, ignored all warnings and re-voted the disputed law, it is not surprising that we came to a situation where our European partners respect the politicized Prosecutorial Council," says Pribilović.
She said that a year and a half was irretrievably lost.
"From all these moves, it is clear that certain political and parapolitical subjects have ambitions to pull the strings in the prosecutor's office, to deal with staffing in the prosecutor's office and politically adjust its composition. The attempt to take control of the prosecutor's office, by certain parties and interest groups, worries our international partners, but above all it should be an alarm for all those political factors that recognize Montenegro's membership in the European Union as a strategic goal of our country. We lost a year and a half irretrievably. Any new slowdown or blockage of the process would be disastrous. for this country and the interests of all those citizens who strongly support European integration, recognizing in it a chance and perspective for a better life and a higher standard of living," concludes the DPS MP.
