The new Montenegrin government has urgent tasks ahead of it, including holding the Kremlin responsible for the war in Ukraine, the US Embassy in Podgorica announced on Friday.

In response to Voice of America's request to comment on the formation of the new Government of Montenegro, and what the United States expects from it, the embassy said that it is crucial that the new government accelerate efforts in the fight against organized crime and corruption, "which includes the successful processing of high-level cases level and returning to Montenegro those who have avoided justice so far".

"The United States of America welcomes the formation of the new government and looks forward to partnering with it to support Montenegro's progress on the Euro-Atlantic path, which includes accelerating the process of accession to the European Union, strengthening NATO membership and building an inclusive, citizen-oriented society with strong, democratic institutions." it is stated in the response of the US Embassy.

"There are enough urgent internal and regional tasks that should be solved, and among them are improving the economy and ensuring the responsibility of the Kremlin for the brutal war against the Ukrainian people," the embassy said.

It is also assessed that for the functioning of any democracy, it is important that the opposition plays a constructive role, and that "all MPs fulfill their democratic duty and actively participate in the work of the parliament".

"As a friend, partner and NATO ally, the USA is still with all those who support a sovereign, inclusive and democratic Montenegro rooted in Euro-Atlantic institutions", the reaction of the American embassy concludes.

Members of the Montenegrin Parliament elected on Thursday, in the absence of the opposition, the new 43rd Government of Montenegro with Prime Minister Dritan Abazović, leader of the URA movement and former Deputy Prime Minister in the government of Zdravko Krivokapić.

45 deputies voted for the election of the new government, with three votes against in the 81-member parliament, whose session was not attended by the deputies of the Democratic Front, Democrats, Prava Montenegro and United Montenegro.
