I hope that next May 9 we will celebrate a big step closer to the family of European states, said the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of European Affairs Jovana Marović in her message congratulating citizens on Europe Day.
"Happy Europe Day and Victory over Fascism Day, when we remind ourselves why it is important to persevere on our path to the European Union," added Marović.
She pointed out that May 9 is the day of commemoration of the beginning of the creation of the European Union, "the day when we should remind ourselves of the values on which the EU rests and persevere on the path of unity, solidarity and respect for diversity".
"Dear citizens of Montenegro, dear Europeans, May 9 is always the right opportunity to remember the Schuman Declaration and the messages from it, which represent the foundation of what we call the European Union today," said Marović.
She emphasized that, "although we celebrate May 9 as the day when fascism was defeated, we still have to fight against everything that represents fascism, against all fascist outbursts and that this is our obligation to the European Union and on the way to the European Union".
"This year, we welcome Europe Day as a sign of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, so we need to focus even more on true values. Right now, all citizens of Europe, all countries of the European Union and the countries of the Western Balkans should be united in common messages, activities and values," said Marović.
Europe Day, as she said, is always an opportunity to "look back on what has been done in the process of European integration".
"A lot has been done on the technical level, but the essential results are yet to come, and this government really has a clear determination to deliver those results for the benefit of all citizens," concluded Marović.
