We are a party that was founded eight years ago, and which is constantly growing on the political stage. We have proven our commitment to European and Euro-Atlantic integration, regardless of whether we acted from the positions of the government or the opposition, said the president of Democratic Montenegro, Aleksa Bečić, after the meeting of the delegation of this party with the delegation of the European People's Party (EPP), headed by the group's spokesperson for enlargement and neighborhood Andrej Kovač.
In the statement, the Democrats added that Bečić pointed out that it was an honor for him to have the opportunity to host them, stressing that he was glad to meet again with the chairman of the European Parliament Delegation for cooperation with Montenegro, Vladimir Bilčik, with whom, during his tenure President of the Assembly successfully jointly managed POSP, but also jointly realized a number of significant joint projects of the two institutions.
They add that Bečić pointed out that Democratic Montenegro is a strong pro-Western, European and Euro-Atlantic center-right civic party.
According to the announcement, he said that he was particularly proud of the Assembly's decision to elect a new Prosecutor's Council.
"It was confirmed that it was worth it that the Democrats persisted in reaching an independent and professional TS, because already now, in the first months of work, we have significant results that we need for the rule of law in Montenegro, as well as for Chapter 23 and 24, but which also prove that we were right when we claimed for years that the top of the largest part of Montenegrin institutions has merged with organized crime and corruption," said Bečić.
He added that the Democrats are a strong, civil party, which unites Montenegro and essentially makes Montenegro small.
"In our political structure, as well as among the deputies and the leadership, we have people of all faiths and nations, and we are one of the few parties that managed to achieve excellent results in local elections and, relatively speaking, in pro-Montenegro, pro-Serb, pro-Albanian, pro-Probosnika municipalities, i.e. regardless of the structure of the population of a municipality... We are also recognized as great fighters for the rule of law, for the fight against crime and corruption, because we are a party that has completely clean foundations and does not depend on any center of power," Bečić said. .
He introduced the guests to, as he stated, the complex political situation we are witnessing in Montenegro, and pointed out that what has been happening in the past few months is not in accordance with the electoral will of the citizens since August 30.
"The elections of August 30 were historic in Montenegro, because we changed the government for the first time in the elections in our country, and now the parties, from the winning majority at the time, formed the government with the opposition, on a completely opposite platform from the one on the basis of which they won mandates from the citizens. So the citizens rightly feel cheated. The opposition then admitted defeat, so now the citizens do not understand how someone who lost an election without an election returns to power," Bečić pointed out.
He is reported to have said that now "we have got a Government characterized by instability and which will be the shortest in the history of Montenegro".
"In the composition of the Government, you do not have representatives of 4/5 MPs, that is, representatives of citizens. The Government is made up of representatives of smaller political parties, which have more ministers than MPs in the Parliament. The largest political entities are outside the Government," Bečić pointed out, adding that the Government is made up of parties that do not have a harmonized position. around a large number of sensitive internal or foreign political issues.
"All this in itself points to instability, and also the minority government does not have the support of at least 49 deputies, as it was announced, which is why, as it was said at the time, the previous government was overthrown, in order to provide the necessary support for the election of judicial positions." said Bečić, concluding that by far the largest number of citizens believe that this issue must be resolved in elections.
The announcement adds that "stating that he was honored to have met with the delegation of Democratic Montenegro, Kovačev pointed out that just as Montenegro is a leader on the path of European integration, the EPP group is also a leader when it comes to the enlargement of the European Union".
According to the statement, he told Bečić that Montenegro can count on help when it comes to speeding up Montenegro's path to the EU, and that in the coming period he will observe how the situation in Montenegro will unfold.
"I want to thank you for so clearly emphasizing your commitment to EU and NATO integration, and the clear goals of your party - the fight against corruption and organized crime, and I expect that we will meet again to discuss these political and other inter-party topics," he concluded. Kovachev.
