Minister of Foreign Affairs Ranko Krivokapić leads the delegation of Montenegro at the first informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers in this format, which is being held on May 14 and 15 in Berlin.
On that occasion, Krivokapić had separate meetings with the heads of diplomacy of Ukraine, Dmitr Kuleb, and North Macedonia, Bujar Osmani.
Kuleba, as announced by the Ministry, thanked Montenegro for its full political support in harmonizing with the EU's foreign policy agenda.
In the conversation with Kuleb, it was assessed that the war in Ukraine has turned into the biggest security and humanitarian tragedy on European soil since the Second World War.
Krivokapić said that the fundamental value system of Europe is being defended in Ukraine today: independence, inviolability of borders, territorial integrity and sovereignty, and pointed out that Ukraine must not be a victim of the green table, and that aggression against its territorial integrity must not receive satisfaction but punishment.
"Minister Kuleba wished Montenegro to restore its autocephaly as soon as possible, as Ukraine did after hundreds of years of struggle, considering it under the circumstances to be a fundamental issue of defending the independence of the state," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The department also announced that Krivokapić, in a conversation with Osmani, congratulated the restoration of the Ohrid archbishopric as a canonical Orthodox church, which, he said, was the basis for formally receiving Tomos. "In the common desire for the imminent restoration of the Orthodox Church of Montenegro, Krivokapić expressed special recognition for the perseverance that lasted since the establishment of the Republic of North Macedonia within the SFRY".
"At the meeting, the readiness of North Macedonia was expressed that in the preamble of the Constitution, which will be amended to meet the EU membership, the Montenegrin people will get their place, which will create better living conditions for Montenegrins in North Macedonia," the announcement reads.
At the meeting, they added, a new joint session of the two governments was agreed upon, after the first one held in 2019, where one of the important topics would be the harmonization of the foreign policy activities of the two countries.
