UNDP is a reliable and active partner of Montenegro in the realization of priority development goals, said the President of the Assembly Danijela Đurović.
In a conversation with the permanent representative of UNDP in Montenegro, Daniela Gašparikova, she expressed satisfaction with the intensity and dynamics of joint activities, the degree of realization of planned projects and strategically oriented programs that fully follow the development needs of Montenegro in the context of EU integration.
"Montenegro strongly values cooperation with UNDP," said Đurović and expressed her belief that, based on past practice and experience, the partnership with UNDP will continue and be upgraded.
Đurović, as reported from the parliament, pointed out the importance of professional, expert and advisory assistance from UNDP in strengthening Montenegrin institutional capacities.
Đurović pointed out that it is fundamentally important to observe and solve issues of gender sensibility in a broader context, which would not be limited exclusively to dealing with this complex phenomenon individually.
"The president emphasized that regulating the issue of gender equality within legal frameworks requires solutions that imply the determination of certain quotas, as a model that is a "necessary evil", since the insufficient representation of women in public and political life is evident," the statement says.
Đurović also pointed out that it is of crucial importance to find the most adequate models that would, through legislation, regulate the sanctioning and suppression of hate speech "since we are witnessing that such discourse is increasingly present in public life".
Gašparikova emphasized the key role of the parliament in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and fulfilling obligations from the EU accession process.
"Members of parliament have a legislative and supervisory role, but also a unique position to adopt laws and policies respecting the gender dimension and diversity of needs, based on data, taking care that no one is neglected in the reform process," she added.
Gašparikova referred to the close cooperation between UNDP and the parliament when it comes to advocating for greater representation of women on electoral lists, but also the fight against all types of violence against women, especially in public life.
As stated, she emphasized UNDP's readiness to continue supporting the development of the plan for the implementation of nationally determined contributions to reduce the greenhouse effect by at least 35 percent and focus on a green, just transition.
"I believe that the parliament will continue to play its role in shaping reform processes in the country in the coming period with greater participation of the community and all relevant partners gathered around a common goal - creating better living conditions and opportunities for choice for all women and men in society," Gašparikova said.
