Members of the Social Democrats (SD) submitted a proposal for a conclusion to the budget rebalancing, which defines that within the current budget reserve, funds in the amount of approximately 380.000 euros have been earmarked for financial support for the construction of a building for pensioners in Podgorica, the SD announced.
"During the past ten years, the capital city allocated the Podgorica Pensioners' Association sites for the construction of three residential and business buildings. With the construction of the said facilities, a total of 288 pensioner families solved their housing problem. For the fourth building, the capital city allocated the site to the Pensioners' Association two years ago. According to the records of the said Association, in the territory of the Capital City of Podgorica there are about 350 retired families who, unfortunately, still do not have a roof over their heads. The financing of the construction of residential and business facilities was carried out from several sources, namely: pensioners' membership fees, the purchase of apartments and contributions and assistance from donors, that is, the Union of Pensioners' Associations of Montenegro, the PIO Fund, ministries and the Government," the announcement of SD emphasizes.
From that party, they said that last year, the Association of Pensioners turned to the Government of Montenegro with a request to help them financially, in order to build a fourth building for pensioners in the capital, which would solve the housing issue for 42 pensioner families.
"The amount that was necessary at that time for the construction and completion of the residential building was about 500 thousand euros. 42. The government did not respond positively to the above-mentioned request. Also, at the end of last year, when adopting the Law on the Budget for 2022, the Social Democrats proposed that the mentioned funds were allocated in the current budget reserve, but that proposal did not receive the support of the 42nd Government and the parliamentary majority at the time. - business building, funds in the amount of over 765.000 euros are missing. The Association of Pensioners Podgorica stated that at least 50% of the stated amount would be needed to start the works, while the other half could be paid until the works are completed, which would last at least a year. Due to all of the above, bearing in mind the importance of solving the housing needs of pensioners, we propose a solution that does not require additional funds in the budget, but implies that the necessary amount of 380 should be set aside within the existing funds for starting work on a housing facility for pensioners," said the SD .
