The President of Montenegro, Milo Đukanović, met in Bratislava on the sidelines of the GLOBSEC forum with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of India, Subramanian Džaisankar.

As reported by the Information Service of the President of Montenegro, "with the pleasure of having the opportunity to talk with the President about the essential development of relations between the two countries", Jaishankar pointed to the fact that "although different and geographically distant, it is important that in the context of the global world we get closer and we help each other."

"With a reminder that certain contacts had already been made in the previous period, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of India thanked for the support of Montenegro at the multilateral level and in international bodies. President Đukanović welcomed the initiative of the Indian side to intensify the dialogue, stating that Montenegro is very proud of its Yugoslav heritage and relations with countries from that period," the announcement reads.

The statement added that "even after independence, we continue cooperation, highly appreciating India's achievements in democratic and economic development," and that "on those foundations, there is real room for improving cooperation, especially in the field of economy, renewable energy sources, tourism and digital technologies."

"India's inspiring experience in food production is a motive for establishing a partnership in that area, the president said, but also for education and culture as a link between countries," the announcement states.

According to a press release, Jaishankar agreed with the priorities of cooperation, "encouraging Montenegro to join the International Solar Alliance, which includes many EU, US and Asian countries, in order to use the available resources."

"He expressed the interest of Indian investors in the European market, which can include Montenegro, which can be a very attractive destination for tourists from India. With information about the developed medical industry in the fight against Covid and the help they can provide to Montenegro, he pointed out that India, in cooperation with UNDP, is a contributor to the Global Center for Innovation, which will be located in Montenegro," the announcement concludes.
