Leader of the Liberal Party (LP), Andrija Popović, attended today in Dublin the ceremonial opening of the ALDE electoral congress of the Alliance of Liberals of Europe.
As announced by the LP, the new leadership of ALDE is elected at the congress, and that party is a full member of the mentioned European political alliance.
The official opening was attended, as they say, by the leaders of liberal parties in Europe, MEPs, prime ministers and ministers of EU countries.
"Javier Bethel, Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Margaret Vestager, Vice President of the European Commission, Alexandre de Croix, Prime Minister of Belgium, Stefan Sejourn, EU Member of Parliament and leader of ALDE in the European Parliament, as a representative of the party of French President Macron, which is a member of this alliance, spoke at the Congress. The main topics of discussion were the movement and strengthening of Europe in the future and the path to a sustainable, secure and independent EU system," the LP statement said.
On that occasion, Popović met with the Prime Minister of Luxembourg Bethel, the candidate for the head of ALDE and the member of the EP Ilhan Kjučuk, the leader of LIBSEEN network of liberals of Southeast Europe Roman Jakič and other liberal leaders of Europe.
As it was announced, on the margins of the congress, they discussed the European perspective of the region and the future enlargement of the EU, as well as the position of Montenegro in those processes.
"An election day at the Congress is expected tomorrow, and after the election of the leadership, a medal for liberalism named after the deceased leader of this union, Hans Van Balen, who was also a great friend of Montenegro, will be awarded," the LP statement concludes.
