Political relations at the level of the leaderships of Montenegro and Serbia are getting better, and parliamentary diplomacy, which facilitates cooperation at all other levels, is of particular importance, said the presidents of the parliaments of the two countries, Ivan Brajović and Maja Gojković.
At a joint media conference in the Serbian Parliament, after the meeting at the beginning of the official visit of the delegation of the Montenegrin Parliament to Serbia, Brajović said that Montenegro is continuously committed to building friendly good-neighborly relations with Serbia, which are additionally strengthened by the regional context and the goals of both countries to be members of the European Union. Union (EU).
"Defining our relations, especially after the independence of both countries, made it possible for those relations to relax and progress more and more every day. It is very important for the public of our two countries to know that historical relations are very complex, they were often evaluated from different positions, often evaluated through the aspect of our internal needs as well as the needs of the wider environment," he said.
Brajović stated that, when evaluating the political aspect, in the last decade these are certainly the best relations at the management level.
"In addition, all economic, infrastructural, tourism cooperation is going in its own direction and there are no obstacles, no reservations, no restrictions. It is also very important that today, as the most responsible people of the National Assembly of Serbia and the Parliament of Montenegro, we talked about improving our parliamentary cooperation," he added.
Brajović said that they assessed that it is very important that parliamentary diplomacy, with its flexibility, can contribute to speeding up cooperation at all other levels.
"I am sure that this visit will also contribute to that and, of course, this is just one continuation of visits at the highest level between Montenegro and Serbia," said Brajović.
Gojković said that both Serbia and Montenegro pay equal attention to the improvement of bilateral relations and that at the parliamentary level they show by example that the dialogue between the politicians of two countries that are bound by many foreign policy commitments, history, as well as, obviously, a common future in the EU, is something which is most necessary for understanding.
She said that she talked with Brajović about the processes in which both countries are and foreign policy priorities and goals, such as the future in the EU, the full membership of both countries in the EU
"First of all, the Parliament of Montenegro is ready to help our fellow parliamentarians of the Committee for European Integration in the same way as it is helped at the Government level when opening the negotiation chapter, by passing on the experiences of the parliamentarians who participate in that process," said Gojković.
As she added, they give each other significant and sincere support along the way.
"We talked about the possibilities for the Berlin process to get another dimension, a parliamentary dimension. I announced to the respected president who agrees with that idea that we should present our idea to everyone who makes up the Berlin process and most likely the Berlin process will get this dimension for the first time at the next meeting that will be held in London," said Gojković.
As announced by the Assembly, at meetings in the Government of Serbia with Prime Minister Ana Brnabić and First Vice-President and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić, it was stated that the communication between Montenegro and Serbia is regular, meaningful and of high quality, as well as that regional stability is a prerequisite for accelerated economic development.
"Significant attention was paid to the European perspective of Montenegro and Serbia, with President Brajović also on this occasion emphasizing our country's commitment to the "principle of the regatta", i.e. measuring the individual performance of candidate states for membership in the Union," the statement said.
