Raško Konjević, Deputy Prime Minister for Political System and Internal Policy, Minister of Defense and member of the National Security Council, was elected at today's session of that body as coordinator of the work of the Bureau for Operational Coordination.

Sergej Sekulović, adviser to the Prime Minister for internal policy and political system, was elected as the coordinator for the development and implementation of the National Strategy for the fight against transnational organized crime.

The National Security Council, chaired by Abazović, held its first session today, at which the national priorities in the fight against serious and organized crime for the period 2022-2025 were adopted, the coordinators of the Bureau for Operational Coordination and the coordinator for the development and implementation of the National Strategy for the Fight against transnational organized crime. At the session, Council members were informed about the situation and problems in relation to working conditions and other issues that are important for the work of the Supreme State Prosecutor's Office, the Special State Prosecutor's Office and other prosecutor's offices, especially in the context of the fight against organized crime and corruption.

Based on the document "Assessment of the threat of serious and organized crime in Montenegro - SOCTA 2021", at today's session, the Council considered the proposal for a list of national priorities in the fight against serious and organized crime for the period 2022 - 2025 and adopted conclusions regarding the following areas: activities of high-risk organized criminal groups, drug smuggling, corruption with a special focus on high-level corruption, illegal migration and human trafficking, smuggling of excise goods, cybercrime, terrorism and extremism, violence and misuse of firearms by operationally interesting persons and members organized criminal groups, the Government announced.

They remind that in the previous mandate of the Government, Sekulović held the position of Minister of Internal Affairs and was the head of the interdepartmental working group, which, in cooperation with international partners, prepared the Draft Strategy for the fight against transnational organized crime. The Council tasked Sekulović to coordinate the finalization of the document in the coming period, but also to be the coordinator of the implementation of the National Strategy, after its adoption at the Government session.

Acting Supreme State Prosecutor's Office Maja Jovanović and Chief Special Prosecutor Vladimir Novović informed the Council about the basic problems in the functioning of the Prosecutor's Office. In this sense, the Council concluded that it fully supports the Supreme State Prosecutor's Office and the Special State Prosecutor's Office, as well as the entire prosecution organization, to continue the fight against organized crime and corruption without exception.

At the session of the Council, a decision was made that the Ministry of Justice should finish the Analysis on technical-material and staffing needs in the Prosecutor's Office as soon as possible and that the said Analysis should be proposed to the Government for resolution as soon as possible and in accordance with the possibilities.

"At the Council session, the article of the Rules of Procedure of the National Security Council was amended in the part that refers to the confidentiality of materials, decisions and Council sessions, which was in conflict with the Law on Confidentiality of Data and the Law on the Basics of the Intelligence and Security Sector of Montenegro. Namely, that article prescribed that everything concerning the Council be marked with the highest degree of secrecy, contrary to the second article of the rules of procedure, which allowed the public to learn about the work of the Council through a press release," added the Government.

In addition to the chairman of the Prime Minister's Council Abazović and the secretary of the Council Jelena Maraš, the following also attended the session: Deputy Prime Minister for Political System and Internal Policy and Minister of Defense Raško Konjević, Minister of Justice Marko Kovač, Minister of the Interior Filip Adžić, Minister of Finance Aleksandar Damjanović, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ranko Krivokapić and Deputy President of the Parliamentary Committee for Security and Defense Mevludin Nuhodžić.

Acting Director of the National Security Agency Savo Kentera and President of the Parliamentary Committee for Security and Defense Milan Knežević were justifiably absent from today's Council session.
