Joint press of Zelenski, Abazović and Rama: Support for Ukraine to obtain the status of a candidate for EU membership

Montenegro, Albania and North Macedonia supported the initiative for Ukraine to obtain the status of a candidate for membership in the European Union (EU).

This was announced at the joint press conference of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenski, the Prime Minister of Montenegro Dritan Abazović and the Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama.

Zelenski, answering the questions of "Vijesti", said that he is aware that Montenegro is a small country, which can help in a limited way when it comes to humanitarian and military aid, but that "where there is a will, there is a way".

"We have started a dialogue and that is very important. A country that is at war like Ukraine has many problems. There are hundreds of wounded every day. An appeal for help has been sent to Montenegro, but also to all other partners," said Zelenski.

He added that it is important that he has the support of NATO member states, because the issue of security is a priority and that Montenegro, Albania and North Macedonia could, as NATO members, raise the issue of Ukraine's security at Alliance meetings.

Abazović said that the visit to Kiev is a moral and political obligation, and that the Ukrainian people are somehow "working miracles" in this situation.

"You are fighting for principles and the possibility of choosing a way of life. You have the support of Montenegro to become part of the European family in accordance with the wishes of your citizens," said Abazović.

He said that the most important thing is for the war to stop, in order to prevent further death and devastation, and after that to hope for the beginning of the reconstruction of Ukraine, and that Montenegro will help as much as it can.

"This is a message to the great powers that we all stand on the same side when it comes to the defense of democratic principles," said the Prime Minister.
