Former Acting Supreme State Prosecutor Dražen Burić withdrew his candidacy for VDT, so he will not appear before the Parliamentary Committee for Political System, Judiciary and Public Administration, which was supposed to conduct his consultative hearing, at 11 am.
The former convocation of the Prosecutorial Council, at the end of July last year, determined the proposal that Burić be elected as the head of the Prosecutor's Office, and on July 29, 2021, that body sent the proposal for Burić to the Assembly, which for more than a year did not deal with the further procedure of electing the head of the Prosecutor's Office organizations.
In a letter, Burić informed the President of the Committee, Momo Koprivica, that he was honored that the former convocation of the TS proposed him as a candidate for the VDT, but bearing in mind the "messages sent in the previous weeks through the statements of certain deputies-members of the Committee, I appreciate that the further parliamentary procedure completely meaningless because the outcome of that procedure has already been announced".
"Deputies from various parliamentary clubs publicly characterized this proposal as an obstacle and a delay on the way to reaching a "political agreement" for the election of the VDT, thus clearly stating their position that for them deciding on the submitted proposal is pointless and a waste of time." wrote Burić in the memo.
On June 10, 2021, after the retirement of the long-time VDT Ivica Stanković, Burić was elected as acting director and held that position until February 5 of this year, when the new convocation of TS elected Maja Jovanović as acting VDT.
