Montenegro's cooperation with Italy is particularly important in the fight against the mafia, Prime Minister Dritan Abazović said at a meeting with the newly appointed ambassador of Italy in Podgorica, Andrea Marcela.
Abazović, as announced by the Government, assessed that the relations between Montenegro and Italy are friendly and substantial, based on continuous political dialogue and cooperation in numerous areas of mutual interest.
He said that for Montenegro, the European integration process has no alternative.
According to Abazović, the Government is firmly committed to persevere in reform activities, especially in the area of the rule of law and the fight against corruption and organized crime, in order to finish the process of accession negotiations in a high-quality manner and be the next member of the European Union (EU).
"Abazović pointed out that the cooperation and exchange of experiences with Italy is particularly important in the fight against crime and high corruption and that it has been intensified since his first official visit to Italy, then in the role of head of the security sector, through the exchange of experiences of various anti-mafia experts," he says. in the announcement.
Marcela, as stated, expressed her condolences for the tragedy that happened in Cetinje, and conveyed the message of the Italian Government that Italy stands firm with its friends in difficult moments for the entire country.
She emphasized that it is her pleasure and honor to stay in Montenegro, a country with which Italy inherits friendly, partnership and allied relations.
Marcela said that Italy wants to help Montenegro in the EU accession process, and that it will continue intensive cooperation in the fields of economy, culture and tourism.
"Abazović's meeting with Marcelo was an opportunity to exchange opinions on the current political situation in Montenegro, Italy and Europe," the announcement added.
