The holder of the Democratic and United Montenegro coalition list for the local elections in Kolašin, Vladimir Martinović, said that, if that coalition takes power in Kolašin, he will erect a monument to Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the coast.
The deputy and vice-president of the Democrats pointed out that with this the city will "partially repay Metropolitan Amfilohi".
"The government in every city is obliged to develop a responsible attitude towards the personalities who marked their epochs, but also the history of the city or the entire country. The Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral Amfilohije, who had a blessed beginning, came from Kolašin, from Donja Morača, and according to the undivided opinion, he represents a personality who significantly shaped the recent history of Montenegro. Therefore, Kolašin, more than any other city, is obliged to cherish the collective memory of its metropolitan," Martinović wrote on Twitter.
He also stated that the previous attitude of the city authorities towards the memory of the metropolitan was "to put it mildly, inappropriate".
"When Metropolitan Amfilohije passed away, the previous government did not even declare a day of mourning in Kolašin, from which the Metropolitan began his journey to the throne of St. Peter of Cetinje, despite the appeals of our committee club to do so. Democratic Montenegro is determined to return the debt to the deserving showed to the greats with the proposal that the day of Njegoš's birth, November 13, be celebrated as the Day of Culture. Let's go, people, to correct the injustice towards deserving people from our region," said Martinović.
He added that "the debt to Metropolitan Amfilohi is one of those that can never be fully repaid".
"But when we take over the power in Kolašin, we will do everything necessary. Metropolitan Amfilohije will get a well-deserved monument in his Kolašin, and when the conditions are right - and a street, so that we can at least partially repay him. Returning the debt to contemporaries who owed our and future generations is our civilizing obligation. It is also returning the debt to the city, nurturing the culture of memory, but also culture in general. By building a monument to the metropolitan, we will give Kolašin a new cultural content, and we will also advocate for the development of existing cultural content, manifestations, festivals and the creation of new ones. Let's go people to invest in culture," said Martinović.
