Montenegro must be stable when joining the European Union (EU), said the President of the Committee for Europe and International Affairs of the Parliament of the German Federal State of Baden-Württemberg, Vili Štehele.
As announced by the Assembly, the presidents and members of the committee for international relations and emigrants and for European integration held a joint meeting today with the delegation of the Committee for Europe and International Affairs of the Parliament of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg, led by Štehele.
Štehele said that a stable government is the basis for positive development and emphasized that the country must be stable when entering the EU.
"He expressed the hope that unity within the EU will be maintained even after the end of the war in Ukraine, concluding that the EU will be further strengthened after the accession of Montenegro," the announcement states.
The President of the Committee for International Relations and Emigrants, Miodrag Lekić, said that he was satisfied with the continuous cooperation with the representatives of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg, and assessed that these meetings were mutually beneficial.
"He informed the interlocutors that there is a consensus in Montenegro regarding European integration, adding that we do not want to accede to the European Union undeservedly, but we really strive to reach European standards, in the interest of our citizens," the parliament statement said.
Lekić stated that it is crucial to resolve the issues regulated by negotiation chapters 23 and 24, stressing the importance of establishing an impartial judicial system.
The President of the Committee for European Integration Branimir Gvozdenović emphasized the importance of adopting European standards that would enable Montenegro to become a full member of the EU as soon as possible, bearing in mind that membership is a priority.
When it comes to support for Montenegro's membership in the European Union, Gvozdenović pointed out that there is a clear desire and intention to achieve this goal, both on the part of the majority of political actors and on the part of the citizens.
He referred to the activities of the Committee for European Integration through its work on the supervision of the process of accession of Montenegro to the EU, the compliance of the domestic legislation with the EU acquis and the assessment of the compliance of the laws submitted to the Parliament of Montenegro by the deputies.
