The President of the Movement for Change Nebojša Medojević called on the Delegation of the European Union (EU) and the ambassadors of the Quinte countries in Montenegro to mediate in the parliamentary dialogue, with the aim of achieving the broadest consensus on the solution of the deep political and institutional crisis in the country.
In a letter to the EU Delegation and ambassadors, Medojević stated that two years after the parliamentary elections held on August 30, 2020, Montenegro has failed to find its own democratic response to the challenges of the decades-long totalitarian rule of the previous regime.
According to him, the formation of the 42nd and 43rd governments, contrary to the electoral will of the citizens and the usual democratic principles, had extremely negative consequences for the stability of democracy and institutions and the economic development of the country.
"I appreciate that all the political conditions have been met to open a dialogue between the parliamentary parties in the Assembly, with the aim of reaching the widest possible consensus regarding the solution to the crisis that threatens to destabilize the country and stop the reform and integration processes," Medojević said.
He said that such crises of legitimacy of the most important institutions of the political system can be resolved democratically and peacefully only through fair and honest elections.
Medojević explained that the dialogue would be conducted on the preconditions, preparation and timing of the parliamentary elections and their merger with the presidential elections.
He pointed out that the dialogue would also be conducted in connection with the election of judges and the unblocking of the work of the Constitutional Court, the unblocking of the prosecution and the judiciary and the completion of the Judicial Council.
Medojević said that the crisis of trust between the parliamentary parties will certainly be a big obstacle to starting a dialogue.
As he stated, the leaders of the parliamentary parties must, in the conditions of a severe political and institutional crisis, show responsibility for channeling political processes in the direction of strengthening democracy and commitment to the common good of citizens and the state.
Medojević assessed that the current political elite publicly demonstrated irresponsibility and inability to put party and personal interests aside and open a parliamentary dialogue to reach a consensus on the necessary reforms.
"I use this opportunity to invite you to use your influence and encourage the Speaker of the Parliament Danijela Đurović to initiate a meeting of the leaders of the parliamentary parties in order to open a dialogue on solving the deep political and institutional crisis in Montenegro," Medojević stated in the letter.
He said that they are facing Montenegro only twice.
"The path of conflict, tension and instability, or dialogue and agreement on a peaceful and democratic solution to the crisis," Medojević concluded.
