The holder of the list "Can Bar, can Montenegro" and Minister of Economic Development and Tourism Goran Đurović said that the list he leads will contribute to getting Stari Bar on the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage as soon as possible.
"I will initiate all legal mechanisms and, in cooperation with the institutions of the system, make a full contribution so that the Old Town of Bar valorizes its universal values as soon as possible and finds itself on the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage, because it deserves it," said Đurović.
Đurović, who is a member of the National Commission for UNESCO, said that it is important that Montenegro, as a participant and witness of stormy cultural and historical turmoil over the centuries, affirms and puts into the function of tourism development numerous segments of tangible and intangible cultural heritage of inestimable value.
"Due to its geographical location and rich history, the Old Town of Bar is a meeting place of all Mediterranean cultures, and for that reason we will do everything in our power and ability to give full importance to this historical site," Đurović pointed out, and it is stated in announcement of the Civic Movement URA.
He said that the rehabilitation of the collapsed remains of the once representative Duke's Palace will be the beginning of a series of investment activities in the revitalization of the collapsed buildings in Stari Bar and putting them into operation.
The ramparts, the aqueduct, the Clock Tower, Barutana, and the old wells and numerous sacred objects in Bar will, as he said, get their full glory, and the results of archaeological research created during these processes will be presented in the most modern ways.
"The entire area of Stari Bar will become a center of science, art and art business, and in this way we will valorize this part of the municipality of Bar as a tourist destination, placing a special emphasis on the functionality and content of creative activities in the Old Town," Đurović assessed.
He pointed out that the cultural and creative industries belong to one of the fastest growing sectors and are the main drivers of the progress of the economies of developed countries, representing a significant source of income and employment.
He adds that in addition to economic benefits, cultural and creative industries contribute to human, inclusive and sustainable development.
"In this way, especially appreciating the importance of the conservation profession in these processes, the Old Town of Bar can show and provide the still unexplored and hidden historical and cultural layers of our country, and our task is to valorize them and to nurture the multiculturalism that characterizes this part of Montenegro. Đurović concluded.
