Montenegro does not recognize, nor will it ever recognize Russia's attempts to annex Ukrainian territories, said the President of the Assembly Danijela Đurović.
At the First Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimean Platform held in Zagreb, she said that Montenegro is ready to continue providing financial and material assistance to Ukraine, in accordance with its modest capabilities.
As announced from the Assembly, Đurović welcomed the proposed establishment of the Platform for the Reconstruction of Ukraine by the European Union (EU) and announced that Montenegro will also support the National Recovery Plan of Ukraine.
"Expressing the sincere expectation that Ukraine, in the shortest possible time, with the help of international partners, will soon have the perspective of a free and prosperous country, Đurović said that Montenegro does not recognize, nor will it ever recognize, Russia's attempts to annex Ukrainian territories", it is said in announcement.
Đurović emphasized that she supports the idea of establishing the parliamentary dimension of the International Crimean Platform as a new mechanism that can strongly contribute to the realization of the platform's goals.
She emphasized that Montenegro condemned the aggression in all international formats and joined the international community's calls to Russia to immediately stop the military attacks, withdraw its forces and choose the path of diplomacy.
Đurović said that Montenegro strongly supports the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, within its internationally recognized borders.
According to her, Montenegro's clear support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people is best expressed through the adoption of the Resolution on the condemnation of Russian military aggression against Ukraine, which was adopted by a large majority of Montenegrin parliamentarians.
"Montenegro fully supports the presented text of the joint statement and thereby shows its readiness to work together with allies and other friendly countries to find a solution for Crimea and other territories of Ukraine that have been under the influence of Russian aggression in the last few months," said Đurović. .
She pointed out that Montenegro is the first country outside the EU to adopt a decision that allows temporary protection for people from Ukraine for a period of one year, as well as facilitated entry into the country for humanitarian reasons.
Today, as Đurović said, Montenegro is a refuge and safe harbor for about 11 thousand Ukrainians, which is slightly less than two percent of the total population.
The Assembly stated that the International Crimean Platform is a format that brought together 47 heads of state and government, as well as ministers and representatives of international institutions in order to improve the efficiency of the international response to the temporary occupation of Crimea.
The platform, they said, was established in order to increase international pressure on Russia, mutually coordinate actions to oppose the consequences of the temporary occupation of Crimea, prevent further violations of human rights and protect the victims of the occupation regime, and achieve the main goal - the return of Crimea under Ukrainian sovereignty.
The Assembly said that the International Crimean Platform was officially launched at the inaugural summit in Kyiv on August 23 last year, when the Joint Declaration was also adopted.
The first parliamentary summit of the International Crimean Platform was organized by the Croatian Parliament and the Supreme Council of Ukraine.
The summit, as stated in the announcement, deals with multiple aspects of the current security situation in Ukraine, as well as the possibilities of contribution of national parliaments and international parliamentary institutions in the five priority areas on which the International Crimean Platform focuses.
The Assembly said that 42 delegations from all over the world participated in today's summit, which once again sent a strong message of support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.
