Montenegro will continue to provide humanitarian and material aid to Ukraine, and will keep its doors open for the citizens of that country, of whom there are currently around eleven thousand in our country, said the president of the Assembly, Danijela Đurović.
The Speaker of the Parliament, as part of the First Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimean Platform, met with the President of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, in Zagreb.
On that occasion, Đurović said that she was pleased to be participating in such an important event, and emphasized Montenegro's continued support for Ukraine and the citizens of that country.
She repeated, as announced from the Assembly, that Montenegro condemned the Russian occupation in all international formats, and also introduced Stefančuk to the Resolution on the condemnation of Russian military aggression against Ukraine, which was adopted by a large majority of Montenegrin parliamentarians. "Emphasizing that Montenegro is the first country outside the EU to adopt the Decision enabling temporary protection for persons from Ukraine for a period of one year, as well as facilitating entry into the country for humanitarian reasons, Đurović announced that Montenegro will continue to provide humanitarian and material aid to Ukraine, as well as that they will continue to keep their doors open for citizens of Ukraine, of whom there are currently around 11.000 in our country," the Assembly announced.
Đurović also pointed out that Montenegro supported the granting of candidate status for membership in the European Union to Ukraine and expressed the readiness of our country to provide all the necessary technical and expert support to that country on its way to the EU.
Stefančuk, as announced, thanked Danijela Đurović for Montenegro's support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, for respecting the principles of international humanitarian law, as well as for consistency in the implementation of sanctions against the Russian Federation. He pointed out that Ukraine highly appreciates the support of our country on the path of European integration and that he expects this meeting to be a good basis for further improvement of parliamentary cooperation.
"Stefanchuk invited the President of the Assembly to an official visit to Ukraine, so that she could see on the spot the extent of the crime committed against the Ukrainian people," the parliament concludes.
