For the future of Šavnik: The inaction of the competent state authorities shows all the weaknesses of the institutions

Montenegro has experienced that the functionality of democracy is being talked about by those who, through their actions in the previous 30 years, have turned the holding of elections into a question of all issues, in which no means are chosen to achieve an election victory, announced the coalition Za budućnost Šavnik.

As they say, "the events in Šavnik and now the marathon repeat of the elections are a necessary consequence of the development of democracy, directed by the DPS".

"If democracy is the rule of the people, then local self-government should be established in Šavnik according to the people who live in that area, and not the one elected from persons who gained the right to vote by committing criminal acts," the announcement states.

"The lack of action by the competent state authorities, above all the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Prosecutor's Office, shows all the weaknesses of the institutions, which this time too are clearly giving way to political interests, as they have been doing for almost 30 years," said the coalition for the future of Šavnik.

They add that, "for more than half a year, we have been appealing to the competent state authorities to initiate proceedings against persons who exercise the right to vote in this municipality by reporting a false residence, as well as against civil servants who enable this by their inaction".

They claim that hundreds of people have obtained the right to vote in this way, but that so far no criminal proceedings have been initiated, nor have disciplinary or criminal proceedings been initiated against any MUP officer.

As they say, "the most recent events, when the personal data of the holders of two opposition electoral lists in Šavnik were leaked from the official database of the Ministry of Interior, showed that the inaction of this state administration body and the absence of any reaction gave impetus to some civil servants who under the control of the Democratic Party of Socialists, to continue collapsing the institutions of the system".

"The only reaction of the MUP and the State Prosecutor's Office is to file criminal charges and initiate criminal proceedings against the residents of Šavnik, who, having no other choice, are forced to defend the electoral will of the citizens of this municipality themselves due to the lack of reaction from those who are legally obligated to do so," the statement concludes. .
