Eraković: The census cannot be held in conditions of increased tensions and when pro-Russian influences are very strong

Member of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Jevto Eraković believes that the census in Montenegro cannot be held in conditions of increased tensions and when pro-Russian influences are very strong.

At a press conference in the Parliament, answering the question whether the census can only be organized if DPS is in power, and whether this is a guarantee that Montenegrins will not be a minority, he said that he is not against the census, but that we should wait for the right time .

He said that he no longer has any dilemma with the proposed Census Law - "The Democratic Front (DF) is the bearer of the policy of unconstitutional parliamentary majority".

"It seems to me that it is time to remind ourselves of the period two years ago when the parliamentary elections were over and when, around this time, the Government of Zdravko Krivokapić was being negotiated. It was a time of acting, in which those parties that call themselves civil and Europeans justified their collaboration with the pro-Russian DF by higher goals with proud promises that they will be the bearers of the policy and that they will be the guarantors of the European policy in Montenegro," said Eraković at the DPS press conference.

He said that they said before, and that it is now confirmed, that with five percent support and seven or eight deputies, it is impossible to match the many times stronger pro-Russian alliance.

He, answering the question whether the DPS is boycotting the Assembly, said that the DPS does not want to participate in any charlatan moves.

""We do not want to participate in charlatan moves that collapse the state. Our position is also clear regarding today's item on the agenda. We are not present today on this item on the agenda and all others that give legitimacy to the constitutional coup", he said.

DPS MP Abaz Dizdarević said that, contrary to the recommendations of international partners, the Census Law was on the list of priorities.

"A responsible and normal Government would not even think of carrying out such a demanding operation in this state of institutions". He said that instead of the Government dealing with the resolution of the political crisis, by electing judges of the Constitutional Court through a political agreement, shortening the mandate of the Assembly and organizing extraordinary parliamentary elections, the Government is dealing with issues that divide society, such as the organization of the census.
