Deputies of Democrats and Demos submitted today to the parliamentary procedure a proposal for amendments to the Law on Social and Child Protection, which foresees a one-time compensation of 900 euros for each newborn child, and one thousand euros for the beneficiary of the right to material security.

The president of the Democrats - Demos - Peace is our nation, Boris Bogdanović, said that social transfers based on a one-time allowance for a newborn child are established by the Law on Social and Child Protection.

He reminded that the current Law on Social and Child Protection stipulates that one of the parents, an adoptive parent, a guardian or a foster parent can exercise the right to a one-time allowance for a newborn child until the child reaches one year of age.

Bogdanović said that the act stipulates that the compensation amounts to 109 euros, while the compensation for the beneficiary of the right to material security is 131 euros.

He also reminded that, according to the official announcement of Monstat from May 10, the rate of natural increase at the level of Montenegro for the past year was minus 3,4.

"So, Montenegro ended last year with negative natural growth, which happened for the first time since statistics were kept in our country," Bogdanović pointed out.

As he stated, the "white plague" was present in 20 out of a total of 24 municipalities, and a positive rate of natural increase was recorded only in Budva, Podgorica, Tuzi and Rožaje. "The proposed increase in the one-time allowance for a newborn child represents a concrete measure that should contribute to the improvement of material conditions for covering the basic living expenses of each newborn child, as a new member of our society," said Bodanović.

He added that the stated reasons confirm the justification of increasing the amount of one-time allowance for a newborn child.
