Miljanić - Redžepi: EU membership is a common goal

There is a similarity between Montenegro and North Macedonia when it comes to systemic corruption and a too long transition that has brought various challenges, and the exchange of experiences can be useful for both countries, it was said at the meeting of Minister without portfolio Zoran Miljanić and North Macedonia's ambassador to Montenegro Rami Redzepi.

Miljanić, as announced by the Government, informed Redžepi about the anti-corruption initiatives implemented by the 43rd Government.

He informed the ambassador about the Government's activities in overcoming systemic corruption and the formation of the National Council for the Fight against Corruption, headed by Prime Minister Dritan Abazović, which consists of ministers who lead areas affected by corruption, as well as representatives of other institutions in charge of suppression of corruption and representatives of the non-governmental sector.

Redzepi, it was announced, emphasized that corruption is a big problem in the states that were created after the collapse of the SFRY and emphasized that the systemic response of the state is the only way to suppress this phenomenon and to achieve progress in European institutions, especially when it comes to chapters 23 and the 24th.

"Montenegro has opened numerous chapters, and North Macedonia is only at the beginning of that process, although in the process of transition the government has been changed as many as seven times. We believe that it is necessary for countries that prefer joining the EU to achieve coordination of all branches of government in order to achieve progress in combating corruption," Redzepi said.

He added that a special approach is important in overcoming the inefficiency of courts and the judiciary.

According to the Government, Redžepi initiated Miljanić's official visit to Skopje in order to exchange experiences and achieve interstate cooperation between government departments and institutions in charge of combating corruption.
