The President of the Assembly, Danijela Đurović, announced that a country that wants to join the European Union must not be subject to corruption, but must find the best methods to fight against this scourge that is eating away at our society.
She said this on the occasion of December 9, the International Day of the Fight against Corruption.
"The biggest threat to democracy is the corruption of those who are elected to lead, and also no external threat can be measured by the power of corruption that exists within the system," the President's Office said in a statement.
Đurović points out that corruption threatens the vital functions of the state and blocks social reforms. He points out that corruption undermines the rule of law and weakens trust in institutions.
"Corruption, as a dangerous phenomenon, penetrates all segments of society and represents a criminal offense that endangers the political, economic, economic and moral development and prosperity of every country", emphasized Đurović.
As he says, after the political changes on August 30, 2020, it was necessary to stop the previous practice of political structures and to conduct investigations against those who offended the citizens and the state.
"A step towards that is the imminent adoption of the Law on the origin of property, which will finally create the preconditions for re-examining the origin of the property of every state official and individual, regardless of which political structure he belongs to," adds Đurović.
"I will advocate for an open, transparent and serious approach in the fight against this phenomenon that threatens the foundations of our country, as well as for the creation of a strong legal framework that will enable us to deal with it thoroughly and responsibly," Đurović points out.
The indiscriminate fight against corruption is true patriotism, the announcement concludes.
