The upcoming session of the Assembly should provide an answer to the question of whether there is a clear valuable majority in Montenegro that truly believes in European rules, said the DPS deputy.

The government, which would be created on the basis of the adopted amendments to the Law on the President, would not retain the status of a legitimate partner of the international community, said MP and member of the Presidency of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) Andrija Nikolić.

Nikolić told the MINA agency that everyone who cares about the European perspective of Montenegro will respect the opinion of the Venice Commission (VK).

According to him, Brussels and Washington warned the outgoing government and the parliamentary majority that it would be very irresponsible to ignore the opinion of the Supreme Court and vote for changes to the Law on the President in the second round.

"That message, first of all, refers to the URA and the Democrats, who continue to advocate the entry of the Democratic Front (DF) into the government, even though they were told: you decide, but the DF is not a partner for Brussels and Washington," said Nikolić. .

He said that for this reason, the upcoming session of the Assembly should provide an answer to the question of whether there is a clear valuable majority in Montenegro that truly believes in European rules.

Nikolić pointed out that the most important thing is to properly understand the benevolent suggestion of Montenegro's international partners, and it reads - pro-European policy is not allowed by every alliance.

"Accordingly, everyone who cares about the European perspective of Montenegro will respect the opinion of the VC." Otherwise, our country is threatened with a complete blockade of the EU road, as well as international isolation", warned Nikolić.

He reminded that 75 percent of Montenegrin citizens support EU membership, which, as he stated, is a binding fact.

"Therefore, the interest of citizens and the state is not to subordinate EU membership to the desire of the parliamentary majority to deal with DPS. Nor that the institution of the President of Montenegro is being destroyed in the House of Representatives," said Nikolić.

As he said, it is in the interest of citizens that pro-European parties cooperate and ensure the European future of Montenegro.
