The President of the Municipality of Nikšić, Marko Kovačević, announced that he received a threatening message via Instagram.
He published the content of the message on Facebook, and accused the media of threats.
"This is your image, my dear media, who are running a campaign against Marko Kovačević, this consciousness is your product, this is what you want this country to do," Kovačević wrote.
In a video that appeared on social networks during the New Year's Eve according to the Julian calendar, Kovačević sang the song "Od Glava Zeta, do grada Spuž", where part of the song, among other things, reads: "...The Turks are wailing, the bulls are wailing..."
He says that this is what the chase that has been leading towards him for days has led to.
"This is why Serbian politicians are being attacked and targeted, why tensions are rising, why after one of the most successful years in the Municipality of Nikšić, the new year is being started by a group of media recycling last year's news, with stalking how what is celebrated, with looking for needles in haystack, wouldn't it somehow harm young people who work for the city, for the community, just because they are Serbs, because they won't sell their great-grandfathers and their struggle and suffering," he says.
He also adds that Marko Kovačević did not raise any of the topics that have been constructed these days and are deliberately, as he says, kept in the public eye so that they would not be manipulated against his personality, his political organization, but also against their coalition partners.
"Those topics were brought up by others, going into the small bowels of celebrations, songs and verses, problematizing the normal functioning of only one people in Montenegro, its traditions, history and everything else. And of course asking me and my colleagues to declare about it, that they judge whether it is right or not. And only because we do not want to agree to continue to be part of such a media harangue and story and to justify ourselves for celebrating, for singing, for rejoicing, without offending anyone, for talking with our people and their representatives in other countries, we are crucified, denounced. None of the propagandists cared what we really said, sang, thought, it was important for them to get hold of something in order not to launch a campaign and propaganda against us for their petty interests," Kovačević wrote.
Allegations that it is something they are grasping for are basic rights.
"What Dr. Vladimir Leposavić said in the title of one of his books, they constantly catch us exercising our rights and they resent us for that, and that's why they hunt us down. It was the same this summer when militant groups wanted to hold a Nazi rally in Nikšić on which they insulted Serbs and Roma and succeeded in using their criminal channels to prevent an artist who was hired to hold a concert that everyone would enjoy. The message is that we should not have any rights if we want to remain Serbs. That Serbs can only be as some empty shell without any content, in the form of decor for those who want to forget their history, tradition and culture and to create something new that will not remind them of their origin," he said.
He also says that it is not the first time that a certain group of media has produced such reactions towards him with their pursuits.
"In which even my dead are not left alone. Of course, that doesn't matter to them, they'll blame me for that too, because it's a media mob that only cares about throwing stones and feeling and smelling someone's blood for their little char. And when they are answered and when they lose the battle with the language of arguments, then they say that I attacked them and their media spiders that they engaged in crucifying me in an attempt to draw a target for me that will lead to such reactions as you see in this message below ", he states.
He also said that the "hero from the message" already deleted both the message and the profile this morning.
"But what remains is the testimony of the misery of those who, out of hatred for the Serbian people, do not choose what to do with a specific person if they can realize their small benefits by trampling on that person. Fortunately, someone sees it all from above, and my mother's eyes also look from above, and heaven is unattainable for such wretches. And may he return it to you... And thank you, really thank you," Kovačević concluded.
Bulajić: Competent to identify and prosecute the person who sent the threats
Tomislav Bulajić, president of the IO Prava Montenegro Nikšić, reacted to Kovačević's threats, pointing out that the president of Nikšić Municipality is a free citizen who has the right, like any other person, to political and private views on all issues.
"Political dissidents can always question and criticize his work in accordance with democratic principles, but no one should give themselves the right to be above the Constitution and the Law and to threaten Kovačević with death," said Bulajić.
Such threats, he says, represent a serious violation of human rights.
"On this occasion, I call on the authorities to urgently identify and prosecute the person who sent the threats to Kovačević. The Serbian cultural and historical heritage is part of the being of Montenegro, and accordingly, the Serbian people are an indispensable part of Montenegro and as such have survived for centuries in these areas. If you judge, judge Mr. Kovačević by the results of his work, not by his nationality," said Bulajić.
