The President of Montenegro, Milo Đukanović, expressed his respect for everything that Croatia does for Montenegro and other countries of the Western Balkans as a responsible neighbor who supports the European integration of the Republic of Croatia and whose word carries special weight in European society.
He said this during a meeting with Croatian Prime Minister Adrej Plenković, during the second day of the Munich Security Conference, the Information Service of the President of Montenegro announced.
"Đukanović congratulated Croatia on its entry into the euro and the Schengen zone and pointed out that we are looking forward to it sincerely and as good neighbors, welcoming the constant progress of that country in catching up with the European standard of living. He pointed out that this is also a great encouragement for all of us," they said in the statement.
They state that Đukanović shared information with Plenković about the current situation in the region and Montenegro with the assessment that the return of stability is a prerequisite for the normalization of conditions and the continuation of the Euro-Atlantic path.
As written in the announcement, Plenković agreed with the assessment that the organization of presidential and then parliamentary elections is crucial for Montenegro.
"With the assessment that the announcement of the completion of the Constitutional Court is good news, he emphasized that Montenegro's ambition towards Europe is quite clear, that we have come a long way and that the currently slowed accession process could be re-energized after the establishment of stability and with a pro-European government. Return from the current changing the image of dysfunctionality into a reform-oriented image is what Croatia is saying as a good neighbor to Montenegro. The interlocutors agreed on excellent relations between the two countries," they added.
A meeting with Damon Wilson as well
The Information Service of the President of Montenegro states that Đukanović had a meeting with Damon Wilson, the president and executive director of the National Endowment for Democracy.
As it is written in the announcement, the conversation was entirely devoted to the opportunities in the ZB and the prospects for the stabilization of the region.
"There is a shared concern about the situation in the region, the continuous deterioration, with the assessment that the situation today is worse than six or seven years ago. There is also a shared fear that, in the conditions of tectonic changes in Europe after the Russian aggression against Ukraine, the West will remain stuck and miss the opportunity for more recent stabilization. In this context, Montenegro was also discussed, the causes that led to the dysfunctionality of institutions and the expressed optimism that Montenegro, although in difficult conditions and under the dominant influence of third parties, will manage to find a way out, restore normality and be a reliable partner again," it is stated in announcement.
