The Socialist People's Party (SNP) supports the introduction of open lists, said the official of that party, Vasilije Lalošević, stating that this system would increase the democratization of society and the trust of citizens towards the one they elect.

"We have nothing against the introduction of the open list system, on the contrary. The SNP has important and quality people who would be chosen and elected even under such an electoral system," said Lalošević to the MINA agency.

He assessed that the system of open lists can be one of the most effective ways to fight against political corruption.

According to him, open lists do not have any negative effects

"With the introduction of open lists, it could be solved by testing the so-called defectors from one political party to another," Lalošević believes.

He said that, first of all, it is necessary to create such an election law and milieu that would prevent the misuse of state resources for election purposes.

"That would be one of the prerequisites for such a law, and with that the system of open lsitas would gain in quality," said Lalošević.

The question, as he stated, is whether there is political will to introduce a system of open lists.

"Perhaps one of the best opportunities is for the open list system to serve as a real example at the local level as well. Of course, it is necessary to harmonize the Law on the Election of Councilors and Members of Parliament with the Constitution of Montenegro, because it stipulates that the mandates belong to members of Parliament and Councilors", said Lalošević.

As he assessed, the system of open lists also means greater democratization of society, greater trust of citizens towards the one they elect and those who are elected by the citizens.

"That interaction is very significant and would contribute to further democratization and betterment of Montenegrin society," Lalošević believes.

The initiative to introduce open electoral lists, as he recalled, came from distinguished professors, the non-governmental sector and other parties.

"If such an initiative is prosecuted, we will make a statement, but at the moment we support such a possibility," Lalošević added.
