The vice-president of the Social Democratic Party, Bojan Zeković, announced that his support for the party's candidate for president, Draginja Vuksanović Stanković, will be a measure of the forces that have a heart for Montenegro, civil, developed and facing the West.
"Everything that happens after 2020 is a consequence of the corruption of the government and abuses in the previous years. Montenegro needs a president who does not carry the burdens of the former government," the statement of the Social Democratic Party states.
Zeković emphasizes that the essence of the presidential elections is not the choice between candidates, but the choice of the political path that Montenegro will follow.
"Will Montenegro be a European, developed, civil and modern society or will it be the periphery of the Serbian or Russian world, a society that shies away from everything modern and advanced," Zeković asked.
He also asked, "will we negotiate joining the European Union in Brussels or submit a report to the Militia Zavetnica in Belgrade? Are the heroes we admire anti-fascists or collaborators of the occupiers?".
"Do we see our children in world universities or in local religious schools? Do we want them to be equal with developed countries where democracy is lived or subordinated to those where opposition leaders are poisoned and killed? That is an essential question in these elections," Zeković said.
As he says, if the second is mathematically certain, it is important that a candidate who is free from the burden of the past and has a better chance of success in the second round is elected in the first round.
"It is also important to send a message that the defense of those values does not reside only in one party. There are those of us who are firmly on the values of a free, civil, European and developed Montenegro, against the current government, and we were also critical of the previous one - whose corruption we got the current government," Zeković concluded.
