Advisor to the President of Montenegro for the constitutional system and legal issues, Boris Bastijančić, met with members of the European Parliament Sunčana Glavak, Tomislav Sokol, Željana Zovko and Karl Ressler in Brussels.
"The members of the European Parliament were unanimous in their assessment that the only correct and natural path for Montenegro and its citizens is the European path, that its place is in the European Union," the press release of the Information Service of the President of Montenegro states.
Glavak, Sokol, Zovko and Ressler said that the crisis that Montenegro is going through is solvable, but that fair and free, extraordinary parliamentary elections are a quick remedy for the current instability, along with the legitimization of political European, civic and progressive forces.
Bastijančić said that he is encouraged that there is still undisguised, well-founded hope in the enlargement process in accordance with merits and results, and that he is convinced that the historic chance to become the first next member of the EU will not be turned into a historic failure.
The MPs said that the upcoming election cycles and the actions of state authorities will be in the focus of attention of the EU countries, all with "the best desire to pass in a democratic atmosphere and with unquestionable results".
"The interlocutors exchanged opinions and preconditions for the continuation of essential progress in the negotiation process in key segments of society, especially in the part of the comprehensive reform of the Montenegrin electoral legislation and the full functionality of the judicial system," the announcement concludes.
