The Prime Minister of Spain and the President of the Socialist International, Pedro Sánchez, sent a letter of support to the President of Montenegro, Milo Đukanović, for the presidential elections, the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) announced.
"As the president of the Socialist International, I would like to express my full support to our sister party, the Democratic Party of Socialists of Montenegro, and wish success in the upcoming presidential elections to your candidate, Mr. Milo Đukanović," said Sanchez, according to the DPS announcement.
They add that he pointed out that in their political family the importance of the vision of DPS and its leader Milo Đukanović was recognized, who in the previous period saved Montenegro from war, achieved independence of Montenegro and turned it towards the western course, towards EU and NATO integrations.
"It is clear that these elections are a turning point for the future path of Montenegro. I believe that the citizens of Montenegro will recognize in these elections that only policies based on universal social democratic values, peace, democracy and equality can be successful for your country. It is an opportunity to create the conditions for Montenegro to return to the path of European integration and economic progress," said Sánchez, citing the DPS.
Also, as he said, it will be an additional impulse for both the Western Balkans and the European Union to recognize the importance of peace and stability in the societies of the region, which would contribute to the whole of Europe.
The DPS states that the Socialist International is the largest global organization that gathers socialist and social-democratic parties from all over the world, and Pedro Sanchez was elected its president in November last year at a congress in Madrid.
