The leader of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Milo Đukanović, congratulated the deputy president of the Europe Now Movement (PES), Jakov Milatović, on his victory in the presidential elections.
"The elections are over. Montenegro has chosen. I respect that choice. I congratulate Jakov Milatović. I wish him to be a successful president. If he is successful, it can mean that Montenegro can be a successful country," Đukanović told reporters at the election headquarters. of DPS in Podgorica.
He thanked the citizens who, as he said, contributed by mass participation in the elections "to having another democratic and credible election process, which contributes to the international reputation of Montenegro".
"I want to thank all the citizens who trusted me. Once those votes were enough for the majority, at the moment they are not, but they are as valuable as a mountain. I am proud of the enormous support in areas where the majority are members of minority nations," he pointed out. is Đukanović.
He said that it is important for Montenegro to make an election on June 11, when early parliamentary elections are scheduled.
"Everything that is happening these days confirms that, unfortunately, Montenegro does not have a government, that it has errant institutions, which was also shown in this election process. It is very important that after June 11, Montenegro gets a government that will responsibly lead it to the European goal." , stated Đukanović.
He also said that he could have "observed the presidential elections from the stands", but that he did not want to and that it was not at the level of his "responsibility towards Montenegro".
"I was led into the elections by my responsibility towards Montenegro, to protect the national honor of Montenegro and Montenegrins. I think we have done it all these years, that we have done it today. Sometimes you win elections, sometimes you lose. And in this process, I think that we showed absolute responsibility towards Montenegro. As for me - wherever I am, whatever I do, European and multi-ethnic Montenegro remains my preoccupation, and I will be dedicated to it for the rest of my life. Thank you all for your patience in waiting for my address, thank you for giving attention to every activity. I will try to perform my duties in the best way until the end of my mandate, regardless of the fact that my view of the offer that Montenegro chose was much more critical than the majority of Montenegrin citizens. I accept this judgment of the public and wish Montenegro all the best, and for the new president to be successful and worthy of the trust he has received," Đukanović concluded.
The DPS supporters gathered at the DPS headquarters whistled and disturbed the TV Vijesti journalist while she was asking questions, and then started chanting - "Milo, Milo" and singing.
After Đukanović told them to give journalists a chance to ask questions, the crowd started singing the national anthem of Montenegro.
