Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said that Montenegro has the sovereign right to decide whether to become part of the Open Balkans, but that he thinks it would be good for the citizens of Montenegro.
In Italy, where he visited the wine fair, Vučić told Hepi television that he congratulated the newly elected President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, but that he had never spoken to him, and that he knew that in the pre-election campaign he spoke positively about the Open Balkans.
"I spoke with Dritan Abazović about it and he unequivocally expressed his desire for Montenegro to join the initiative. I think it is good and useful for Montenegro, but we do not despair even if they don't, it is their sovereign right to decide," Vučić said. .
He pointed out that the members of the Open Balkans make their own decisions, that they meet and decide by consensus on what makes life easier for their citizens, and that no one calls them or imposes solutions.
"Whenever we talk about the Open Balkans, the political question arises of who is there, but never what we achieve," stated Vučić and said that the movement of goods towards North Macedonia and Albania has been drastically accelerated.
Vučić pointed out that it is important to improve trust with Montenegro and that he hopes that cooperation will be the main motive of mutual relations.
