The Budva committee of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) assessed that the accusations against the arrested Municipal President Milo Božović call into question the legitimacy of the local government in Budva.
"Given the fact that Milo Božović was ordered to be detained for up to 30 days by the investigating judge, due to the suspicion that he participated in drug trafficking, and that the president of the Municipality of Budva has not yet appointed vice-presidents who could take over the management of the city, it is questioned elementary functioning of the Municipality, from the work of the administration to the payment of salaries to the employees. In addition, the reputation of Budva, as a central tourist city in Montenegro, has been drastically damaged, and it is written about only in the black chronicles these days," the announcement states.
They said that the DPS repeatedly pointed out the "arrogance and inappropriate behavior" of the representatives of the authorities in the Budva municipality, but that they could not even imagine "how serious the criminal charges relating to the first man of the municipality can be".
"We are not here to judge and judge, but the arrest of Božović and the most serious charges against him call into question the legitimacy of the local government, and in particular raise the question of how the pre-election process was conducted and what means were used to secure the support of the citizens.
"Given that there is no legal solution that would enable the normal functioning of the municipality, the payment of salaries and the performance of regular obligations, we believe that the mandates must be returned to the hands of the citizens, so that they can decide whether they want to be led by people who link to drug trafficking or will vote for the development of the city on pure and principled grounds. That would be the only correct action, and in the interest of every citizen living in our municipality. Otherwise, we will face the season as a city with the label of drug trafficking, which is disastrous for the tourism of Budva and its long-cherished image of the pearl of the Mediterranean", conclude from the Budva DPS.
