The mayor of the capital Cetinje, Nikola Đurašković, announced that the inauguration of the newly elected President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović van Cetinje, would be "a kind of showdown with the city, which is the historical and current capital, whose status is defined by the Law on the Capital".
As "Vijesti" previously announced, the police are assessing the security of the inauguration of Jakov Milatović in Cetinje, and the Assembly's services have begun preparations for the ceremony to take place in Podgorica in the parliament building.
"Cetinje is the capital of the state and it is expected and natural that the inauguration will be held in Cetinje. It would be a very bad message to do otherwise and it would be an open disregard for Cetinje and a kind of showdown with the city, which is the historical and current capital, whose status is defined by law about the capital. Presidents come and go, but Cetinje, as a symbol of eternal Montenegro, its independence and duration, remains and no one can take away the status it has," Đurašković said in a statement.
He adds that "whoever has good intentions towards Montenegro and Cetinje, will not avoid Cetinje".
"Cetinje has responded to numerous challenges in a dignified and European manner many times in the past, I see no reason why it should not be the same now," said Đurašković.
