The president of the Democratic People's Party, Milan Knežević, announced that he would launch an initiative to give Podgorica the Street of Jasenovac victims.
The DNP announced that Knežević visited Jasenovac, in Croatia, at the invitation of Jovan, the bishop of the Pakračko-Slavonski Serbian Orthodox Church, in order to attend the "prayerful commemoration of the seventy-eighth anniversary of the escape of Jasenovac prisoners from the infamous camp".
On that occasion, he also attended the liturgy in the temple of the Holy Prophet Ilia in Mlaka.
"Knežević laid a wreath at the Jasenovac memorial complex, dedicated to the victims of Jasenovac, and on that occasion pointed out that we all have a duty to preserve the culture of memory of the genocide that happened to the Serbian people during the Second World War, especially in this concentration camp, in which more than seven hundred thousand Serbs, Jews and Roma perished.
"The leader of the DNP pointed out that he will launch an initiative to have a street in Podgorica named the Street of the Jasenovac victims, because in this way, as a people, we can prevent such sufferings from ever happening again," the party announced. .
