Nikšić URA: The tradition of anti-fascism is belittled in order to spread new seeds of division

From the Nikšić Committee of the Citizens' Movement URA, regarding the current issue of changing street names in that municipality, they said that it is not just about relativizing and erasing history, but that "the priorities of the actors and promoters" of such activities are clearly read.

"OO GP URA Nikšić appreciates that, in addition to the names of our streets, for every citizen of the city under Trebjes, the condition in which these same streets are located is equally important - if not more important - and that their reconstruction, with the aim of improving traffic safety and accessibility as an imperative to respect basic human rights, but also the aesthetic appearance of the city, which is an absolute priority," said the president of that committee, Dušan Golović.

"The announced measures are a clear illustration that to the initiators of street name changes, ideologies and relics of the past are more important than the achievements of the modern civil society we strive for. Instead of respecting and reaffirming the glorious past and anti-fascist values, today we are faced with actions that disparage the tradition of anti-fascism , and all in order to plant new seeds of division and build cheap political capital on it," he added.

He said that the URA will not be a maker of "daily political folklore".

"As descendants of famous ancestors who gave their lives in the fight against fascism, we are obliged to preserve their memory. Therefore, from OO GP URA Nikšić we clearly say that we will support, propose and promote exclusively progressive ideas, which bring benefit to all citizens of Nikšić and Montenegro Gore, as well as that we will not be the maker of daily political folklore and participate in petty political games, either at the level of the local community or the state," concluded Golović.
