The Ambassador of Finland to Montenegro, Kim Lahdevirt, announced that with Finland's membership in NATO, a new dimension of cooperation with Montenegro has been achieved, and that he hopes that Sweden will soon join them.
Lahdevirt said this during a farewell visit to the President of Montenegro, Milo Đukanović, during which Đukanović thanked the ambassador for successful cooperation and contribution to the improvement of bilateral relations, with the assessment that Montenegro highly values good and friendly relations with Finland.
As stated in the press release of the Information Service of the President of Montenegro, Đukanović congratulated the recently completed ratification procedure of Finland's membership in NATO, which, he said, "he is happy about because our interstate relations are strengthened by the alliance in the Alliance, which becomes stronger with the new member, and gives it a new value and contribution".
"Finland's admission to NATO is significant for that region, Europe as a whole, but also global peace, bearing in mind Russian aggression," said Đukanović.
Đukanović also thanked Finland for its support to Montenegro and the region on the way to the Europeanization of our societies, reminding that between the stability of the region and its integration into the European Union, there is a sign of equality, "which is our interest, but also the interest of Europe and its stability and prosperity, and why it is crucial that both the EU and NATO increase their attention towards the Western Balkans region".
"With gratitude for the reception, Lahdevirt highly rated the cooperation with Montenegro during his diplomatic mission," the announcement states.
As stated, he expressed special gratitude to Đukanović personally and Montenegro for supporting the membership of Finland and Sweden in NATO, emphasizing that this is a fundamental change in the vision of security policy, an important step for the entire region and Europe, which sends a message about a united Alliance, open for new members.
"Đukanović and Lahdevirt welcomed the bilateral cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of education, and emphasized the importance of economic connection," the announcement states.
"The interlocutors exchanged opinions on current internal and geopolitical issues, with the ambassador's interest in the president's analysis of the development of the situation, which he highly appreciates," the announcement concludes.
