The Municipal Committee of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) Budva announced today that the Municipality of Budva cannot be governed from prison.
"That we live in a period of political improvisation and a complete absence of respect for the citizens of Budva, is confirmed by the latest message from the head of the Budva Parliament, Nikola Jovanović, that the arrested president of the municipality of Budva should continue to lead the city from prison. Jovanović and his colleagues from the DF, not only do not worry about that that Budva welcomes the season with the president of the municipality who is in prison because he is suspected of drug distribution, but they are already behaving like the "heroes" from the movies about the former South American cartels. Neither in the movie nor in reality, the municipality could be manage from prison," the DPS Budva press release points out.
The President of the Municipality of Budva, Nikola Jovanović, said today that the current President of the Municipality, Milo Božović, who is in custody, will continue to sign official documents, and that "on this day, there are no legal obstacles for the Municipality of Budva, the executive power and the legislative chamber to be fully functional".
"Since today's unacceptable statement by the President of the Budva Municipal Assembly, Nikola Jovanović, the recognition of the Budva DF that they cannot, do not have or simply must not elect a vice-president of the municipality, who would, in Božović's absence, perform the duties of the first man of the city. From the moment of Božović's arrest, we tried to be constructive, and to offer help, knowing that this situation is unsustainable in the long term, both for the functioning of the vital services of the municipality, and for the image of Budva as a tourist city. , let's try to present the tourist season as successfully as possible", said DPS Budva.
They said that "the charges against the municipal president are very serious, and call into question the legitimacy of the held elections and the way in which support was obtained, however, that is not a priority now."
"The topic of calling new elections should be opened after the summer, after the end of the tourist season, which is what the majority of the people of Budva live on. Once again, we benevolently tell our colleagues from the Democratic Front that they cannot close their eyes to the fact that the detention of the current president of the Municipality, Milo Božović, has been extended for two months. Do not underestimate the citizens of Budva, or in the next elections you will be severely punished for playing with their interests," concludes the announcement of DPS Budva.
